Privilege 42  4-cabins – 1998

Privilege 42 catamaran designed by Marc Lombard and built by Privilege Marine.  The Privilege build quality is well know and this boat has been very well maintained and presents as a very clean and well organized boat.

The hull had a full refit in 2019 including new gelcoat and 4 layers of copper, new thru hulls and sea cocks, new rudder bearings and all deck hatches as well as saloon plexiglass resealed, all done by professionals in Martinique.  The boat also benefitted from a good electrical refit including new batteries and battery cabling, 680W of bifacial solar panels with MPPT controller, new Victron charge controller and 2000W inverter.  Also done by professionals.

On deck there is a bowsprit and rigging for a gennaker, a baby stay with a heavy weather staysail.  The mainsail is new and the genoa has a good overhaul just 2 years ago, the gennaker has a new endless furling system.  The gennaker and mainsail halyard, mainsheets, traveller and topping lift running rigging was all changed 2019.  There are strong davits for the solar panels and dingy hoist.   The gelcoat is clean and in good condition.

The Privilege 42 is a very comfortable boat.  There is a massive cockpit with a custom carved teak table that is protected by a bimini including side and aft shades.  This cockpit leads into an open plan saloon.  The galley is down and communicates with the saloon area making for a large light filled space that’s very pleasant to live in.  There are 4 double cabins, each with a bathroom, 2 fridges, lots of cupboard space to store all your affairs.

The engine rooms open from the side of the cockpit meaning they are well protected from any leaks and spray.  The boat has 1 original engine and the other from 2007, both in good running order.  There are drive shafts, and not the usual saildrive setup meaning safer and more power.

The boat has many upgrades over the years, summarized below:

  • New mainsail (2022)
  • Suzuki 9.9 4 St outboard engine (2021)
