Lazo is an aluminium cutter designed by Michel Joubert. Joubert is famous for the design of hundreds of yachts including for the Beneteau Group. Lazo was built in La Trinité-sur-mer by Constructions Marines in 1999 and launched in 2000. She's a twin rudder, lifting centreboard design with sleek lines. She's already proved her worth by sailing once around the world – with her current owner an adolescent on board.
Lazo was prepared for her 2nd adventure in France in 2016/2017. This refit included all the essential items needed to make her ocean cruising ready, including new thru hulls and a full sand blasting and repainting of the hull. The structure and equipment was surveyed in France before departure and again in Tahiti in 2019 for insurance purposes.
Her design is reminiscent of the 'Levriers des mers' and 'Ovni', both well known in France, with a multi-chine hull and cutter rig. The interior has 3 cabins, a double forward and 2 smaller double or ¾ cabins aft. It's clear that the boat was appointed with long term cruising in mind. There are many handy storage solutions, as well as 3 desk areas – one in the saloon and one in each aft cabin.
The refit in 2016/2017 saw a renewal of the standing rigging, new mainsail, genoa and staysail. A reconditioned engine was installed that has only 350h on the clock today. The boat is tiller steered, with a Raymarine auto pilot running on a Lecomble and Schmidt inline drive. There is also a windpilot new in 2017. The navigation systems have been renewed including a Raymarine ES98 chartplotter with radar and AIS. The energy systems were also seen to, with the addition of solar and a wind generator and new batteries.
This is a comfortable and robust boat. The interior has seen all the woodwork re-varnished including the floors. The mattresses and upholstery were renewed in 2017. If your plans are to sail into colder waters, the boat is insulated, has hot water and an Eberspacher Hydronic Heater.
Lazo is a lovely example of a robust ocean-going sailboat, beautifully prepared and ready to sail. All the details of her refit are in the inventory, available for download. Contact Sail Tahiti for more information.
