The best sailing in Tahiti!

French Polynesia’s sailing season is in full swing, from competitive sailing to luxury cruising…

The season started in April with the Tahiti Tour, in early May the much-awaited Tahiti Pearl Regatta and coming soon the Tahiti Moorea Sailing Rendezvous.

This year’s Tahiti Pearl Regatta gave all the excitement we’ve come to expect despite the variable conditions, with some close racing in the exceptional setting of the Leeward Islands.

The stars of the 2018 edition were the Diam 24 trimarans.  Followed closely by the Corsair Marine Pulse 600 trimarans: Multihull Solutions crew with Hobie Cat 16 champion Manu Rousseau and owner racer Dominique Bayen, and 2 big performance catamarans: Pierre Cosso’s Outremer 45 and Nicolas Gruet’s Ekolo Cat.

To add to the fun, the Multihull Solutions team welcomed this year’s event ambassador, Loïc Peyron on board for some exciting match racing.  Loïc, for those that don’t know, is a French yachtsman with too many achievements to list, for example winner of the Jules Verne Trophy in 2012, 2 America’s Cup challenges, numerous transatlantic records … and a sailing career that stretches back to the 80s.

While multihulls stole the limelight, in the monohull division sport sailing won the day, with the Marc Lombard design Speed Feet class on the podium, led by Gwenaelle Janicaud’s team.

International entries were present in the running as well, with some close racing seeing the New Zealand entry, the First 44.7 Rumpus placing 4th, and Jean-Francois Richeau of Nautilus Sails Auckland on Ekolo Cat.

Sail Tahiti and Multihull Solutions support competitive sailing

The Tahiti Sailing Federation and the Yacht Club de Tahiti continue to push forward in sport sailing.  The season features one new initiative: a Tahitian team will compete in the 2018 Youth Sailing World Championships on the Nacra 15, one of the most exciting youth multihulls.

Sail Tahiti is at the heart of these initiatives, by distributing the Nacra brand in Polynesia and supporting the yacht club with the help of the Pacific’s multihull expert, Multihull Solutions.  As always on the boundary of elegance and performance, we have a selection of boats, whether you’re looking for performance or cruising, or both.
