The Crowther Nordest 63 – Catafjord, is an excellent long-distance performance cruising catamaran. She’s a Lock Crowther design with 6 cabins and a fully enclosed bridge deck. Catafjord has already circumnavigated with her first owners and is halfway around again, proof to her excellent design and solid build.
She was built in Quebec in 1996 by the Nordest boatyard in fibreglass reinforced strip planking. This means she’s light and strong and with her long narrow hulls gives excellent sailing speeds easily clocking daily averages of 200nm. The ketch rig offers many options for sail trimming and there is a fully protected bridge deck with optimal all-around visibility, excellent for sail management and good in all weather conditions. The cockpit is protected by a rigid bimini.
The interior is a spacious loft style saloon with table seating for 12 and an American style open plan galley, music area, chart table. There are 2 forward cabins on the bridge deck level, and each hull has a further 2 cabins as well as an office space and bathroom. The starboard hull also includes a workshop. The interior layout can be adjusted as the by rearranged the partitions so you could imagine making this your own personalised space.
The equipment and maintenance of Catafjord is irreproachable:
- a full suite of Doyle sails from 2017,
- trampoline 2017, running rigging 2017,
- 2 new Beta Marine engines installed in 2017 with new line shafts,
- 2 water makers, a generator, solar and washing machine … the list is long.
This Crowther Nordest 63 is really a unique boat, offering a huge living space with impressive sailing performance. Catafjord is well known in sailing circles thanks to her first owners’ blog. The current owners, 2 French families with 5 children in total will complete there semi around the world trip in New Zealand at the end of this season. Catafjord will then be ready to take another adventuresome family or group in their own expedition.
